About Cajun Spinner's
"Thirty years ago, my son took up yo-yoing so I began collecting vintage yo-yos as a way to relate to him. Well, he grew up and I didn’t. I fell in love with the yo-yo community with all its diverse talents, creativity, and most of all selfless generosity, always willing to share and encourage others.

For years I have wanted to make a contribution to our incredible sport and hobby, and I hope I have finally found a way.

When todays great-grandparents, grandparents and parents were children they were thrilled to spend hours of fun at home and with their friends playing the greatest selling toy of all-time, the Yo-Yo. It is a learned skill you will never lose, entertaining you and others for a lifetime.

Ball-bearing Yo-Yos are amazing, but the original wooden, fixed axle Yo-Yo remains the greatest test for the skills of any experienced Yo-Yoer.

Cajun Spinner’s is bringing today’s generation their own fond memories by tapping into the past with Handmade Classic, wooden, fixed axle Yo-Yos…with a Cajun twist.

On February 2, 2023, we will launch the first four of many more to come Cajun Spinner's Yeaux-Yeauxs, sold in limited quantities exclusively on eBay under the seller name of "cajunspinners". If you like them, tell your friends and buy them all y'all! If you don't like them, be very, very quiet.

Release #2. Being from south Louisiana and with Mardi Gras season being upon us, there is the Mardi Gras Doubloon Yeaux-Yeaux with a little lagniappe, a free vintage aluminum Mardi Gras doubloon from my personal collection. Twelve each in yellow, green, or purple. Mardi Gras refers to the events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany or Three Kings Day (January 06, 2023) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday (February 22 2023), which is known as Shrove Tuesday. The name Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", which reflects the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season. During Mardi Gras parades it is customary for krewe members riding on or walking alongside of the parade floats throwing trinkets to the people in the crowd, prompting the crowd to yell, 'Throw me something mister!' Of the most popular trinkets is the Mardi Gras Doubloon, which is typically made of aluminum shaped like a coin and commemorates various Mardi Gras krewes on one side and various themes on the other. The first doubloons used as throws from parades of Mardi Gras krewes date to 1960, and these early doubloons are collectible.

The Lord willing, a new Cajun Spinner’s Yeaux-Yeaux will be released the first week of each month, so be on the lookout and tell your friends! As we Cajun yo-yoers like to say… Laissez tourner les bons temps, 'Let the good times spin'.

Thanks brothers!

About Mardi Gras Doubloons
Mardi Gras doubloons were first introduced in 1960 by H. Alvin Sharpe, who is recognized as "The Father of the Mardi Gras Doubloon," as seen on the coin in this exhibit.

One side of a doubloon usually featured the logo or emblem of the krewe (pronounced "crew"; a social organization or club that is responsible for a float and throws [no, not yo-yos]) throwing it out to parade goers, along with beads, cups, stuffed animals, and yes, even shoes). The other side usually depicted some sort of unique design that may be related to the year's parade theme, a famous historical figure, or the krewe's history.

The obverse of the doubloon in this exhibit features a profile of a figure wearing a warrior's helmet, labeled "Captain of Host" and the initials "KOJ" at the bottom. "KOJ" suggests that it came from the Krewe of Janus, a Mardi Gras krewe based in Monroe, Louisiana. Or, it could have connections to Krewe of Rex, one of the most historic krewes. The reverse side depicts H. Alvin Sharpe (1910-1982), labeled "A Legend in His Own Time" and "The Father of the Mardi Gras Doubloon." The year 1983 is also inscribed, likely marks the year that this doubloon was produced in his honor.
